Abstract

the article considers the automotive technical examination as a tool for establishing the technical circumstances of a road accident (accident) and assessing the cause-and-effect relationships between the actions of the participants and the consequences. The aim of the work is to systematize the stages of expert research: collecting initial data, forming calculated assumptions, determining the speed regime and braking distance, reconstructing traffic trajectories, assessing the technical possibility of preventing a road accident. The structure of indicators for analytical reconstruction (traction coefficient, driver reaction time, deceleration, visibility/sight) is proposed, as well as a typical algorithm for checking versions using the balance of distances and time intervals. An example of calculating the critical speed and minimum stopping distance for different road conditions is given and the sensitivity of conclusions to the uncertainty of input parameters is demonstrated. The results can be used to prepare methodically substantiated expert conclusions in criminal and civil proceedings.
