Peculiarities of foreign trade in transport services between Ukraine, the EU and other countries of the world

The article examines the peculiarities of external trade in transport services between Ukraine, the EU, and other countries worldwide. External trade is considered through the dynamics of export and import operations. Significant attention is given to the analysis of the export and import of transport services between Ukraine and the EU. The growth rates of transport services import/export volumes are determined for the previous year and the base year of 2010. This reflects the main trends in export and import operations during the study period. The geographic structure of Ukraine's export and import of transport services with EU countries in 2010 and 2021 is discussed. The leading positions in export in 2010 were occupied by the United Kingdom, Cyprus, Belgium, and Germany. The leading positions in export in 2021 were held by Germany, Poland, Cyprus, and the Netherlands. In terms of import, the top four leaders in 2010 were the United Kingdom, Germany, Cyprus, and Poland. In terms of import in 2021, Germany and Poland were the leaders. Factors contributing to the decline/growth of Ukraine's export/import of transport services are outlined. These factors include the onset of Russian military aggression against Ukraine in 2014, which resulted in a decline in the export and import of transport services until 2016; the economic and political crisis of 2018-2019; the Covid-19 pandemic, characterized by trade and transport operation restrictions in 2019-2020; the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the EU in 2020, as one of Ukraine's major trading partners; and the full-scale war waged by Russia against Ukraine at the beginning of 2022. The results of calculations regarding the share of export/import of transport services in the overall structure of Ukraine's export/import of services with the EU are presented. The trade balance of transport services between Ukraine and the EU is shown. It is concluded that Russia was Ukraine's main trading partner in the export of transport services until 2021, while the EU was the main trading partner in the import of transport services.
